About Me

So a little bit about me.  I am a retired registered nurse that has recently moved from a small community up north to move closer to family.  The circumstances were less than ideal but I am trying to make the best of things.  That is all one can do.  As I have mentioned before in my latest post, I have drawn and written for as long as I can remember.

I have been fortunate to live most of my life up in Muskoka a beautiful part of northern Ontario, North of the GTA area.  I moved up there to get away from the suburbs when I was in my early 20's, married a local and had a son and settled down in a small community and made my life there for 38 years.

I have a curious mind and am drawn to detail, color and just the exquisite beauty of nature.  This goes way back to my childhood days in Jamaica and the lush vegetation and gorgeous colors of  songbirds and flowers that thrived there.

My father worked for IBM and was transferred to Jamaica where he met my mother and so we were fortunate to be able to go back and forth over the years to see my grandparents and cousins and lived there for a couple of years when my father was transferred there to work.

All good things must come to an end as they say when he returned to Winnipeg, a cold shock to the system, and then onto Southern Ontario where we grew up.

I studied art in school and high school and had quite a few wonderful art teachers, Bob Mason, Birgit Bateman and Robert Batemen naming a few.  This was before he retired and went to live on Salt Spring Island.  From there, on to college where I studied Art History, Illustration and then Animation.  I eventually ended up north as I said and spent most of my years there.  Got married, had my son and opened up a small studio in a little village called Minett, entered shows and sold my work.

I was fortunate to have some of my work featured in a few magazines and shows and newspaper stories.

Things seemed to be going well until we noticed my son had some medical issues that needed attending.  My art career took a complete turn and I went back to school, got my nursing degree and the rest is history.

Life has had its ups and downs like everyone else and we persevere.  Circumstances change, and now I am back down in Southern Ontario finding my way, and picking up my paintbrush once again.  🎨
